# State variables extraction

Is it possible to extract random XY points from an XY plane and their corresponding state variables?

I am trying to plot such a 3D graph of simulated temperature along an XY plane against the corresponding X and Y points.

The 3D graph below was plotted using measured temperature values at the corresponding XY locations.

Thanks so much.

Much appreciated

Yes. The points aren't random but I assume you can also use more regular arrays. Which solver are you using?

I am using FLUENT.

Yes yes, you are right, the point are not exactly random.

Could you please elaborate on how I could do that?

Creating individual points in CFD Post is not only tedious but impractical especially in a large domain like in my situation.

My XY plane is 83.6m * 40.59m.

Thank you

Much appreciated.

In CFD-Post, go to Insert > Location > Point Cloud. This will allow you to apply randomly spaced points on a surface.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the response.

Will attempt to do this.

Thank you.
