That's all depends on the operating frequency. At low frequency, a single ground via may be sufficient to keep ground as ground but as you go higher in the frequency you may need to create a via fence to keep the signal isolated from other parasitics.
In addition to the above responses, depending on which harmonic you are concerned about will dictate the spacing. From the RF/microwave perspective, more ground vias are better.
