@floatingstones When you install 2021R1 you will have access to 2021R1 until 03/31/22. Currently the installation of 2021R1 does not renew access to prior releases.
2021R1 license will expire in March 2022 as mentioned on the download page. Once the license expires, you need to revisit the download page and download a fresh copy of the 2021R1 having 6-month of extended license (March 2022 to September 2022). Product license will be deactivated and can't be renewed beyond September 2022.
Hi, I've just installed Ansys STUDENT 2021R1.
I have 8 core CPU but FLUENT only works on 4 cores. If I try to use more cores it says:
"Unable to spawn node: license not available.
ANSYS LICENSE MANAGER ERROR:Not enough HPC Parallel licenses 8/4."
Is 4 cores maximum for student license?
Correct. Student version will not allow more than 4 cores.
Hello @vganore, any news on that? I'm currently using version 2020R2, I tried to upgrade to the 2021R1 version, but for AQWA there are new restrictions that make the usage of this software almost impractical. I tried to run a model developed in 2020R2 and it gives me an error, saying that the maximum panel number is 2000, when it was 20000 in the previous version. It is too restricted now, so we well be using 2020R2 for a while at my university. Is there a way to renew the license now? It says it will expire in 23 days.
Hello @baldaconi ,
Yes, there is good news. The upgraded version of 2020R2 will be available on July 14th. License key on the upgraded version will expire on Jan 31, 2022. 2020R2 will be removed from our website when we release 2022R1 in January next year.
Could you please share a snapshot of the limit error you are getting in 2021R1? We did not change any limits on AQWA at 2021R1.
Hello @vganore ! Thank you for your fast reply.
Sure, I can share a snapshot.
When I first try to open AQWA from Ansys Workbench, I get the following warning:
When I try to run the model, I get the following error:
My model has multiple bodies interacting and hinges between them. There are cables for mooring.
I think you've exceeded the cell/node count for the Student solver. If you simplify the model it should work, otherwise you'll need a Research key.
@Rob is right - the Student license is limited to 2000 diffracting panels, so you will need a Research license if you want to run large models. I guess that the Ansys Customisation Toolbox (ACT) is also excluded from Student use.
Thank you for your replies, @Rob and @MikePettit . But this limit was implemented only for the newer version, right? I tried to run an older model, which was ok in previous versions.
I don't know were this ACT error comes from, I didn't add anything like that to the project, it is just a simple DM geometry added to AQWA, performing Hydrodynamic Diffraction and Hydrodynamic Response. It is weird because this doesn't happen when using Ansys 2020 R2.
@vganore said no limits were modified. We might have some conflicting information here.
That's correct, this limit has just been implemented at 2021 R1.
Regarding the ACT extension, this is automatically loaded when you create a Hydrodynamic Diffraction system - it's used to map hydrodynamic pressures from Aqwa to a Static Structural calculation. If you're not intending to include this pressure mapping in your workflow, you can safely ignore the error.
My ANSYS student 2020 R2 is expiring and when I tried downloading 2021 R2, there is no license file over there. How can I renew my student license? Thanks.
Please download a fresh copy of 2020R2 from the website which has an extended inbuilt license.
Where can i download it?
I've found only the 2021 version.
Go to "Free Student Software" on the top of this page. There, click on "Ansys Student -> Download now" frame. Instead of clicking on the yellow button for 2021 R2, roll down the page and look for "Prior releases", click on the "+" sign. There you have them: the previous two releases of the software.
So, when i found it, there is written "Built-in license valid until 7/31/21", that is the version that i have already. If i download it, the license will be renewed?
That is weird. Maybe it is a problem of cache data of the page, because for me it displays other license expiring dates. Try refreshing or cleaning your browser history. Look what I got:
I've tried refreshing or cleaning your browser history, but it not worked :(
Browser history and browser cache can be 2 separate items. try deleting your browsers cache.
Or, try using a different browser.
Same thing on microsoft edge. I've already tried cleaning cache with CCleaner, but it not worked.
Ansys customers with active commercial software licenses can access the customer portal and submit support questions. You will need your active account number to register.
