Linux with Slurm: Cannot start Geometry Editor

We are trying to use Ansys Workbench, Fluent, Geometry editor from a Turbo VNC session on a Linux, 64-bit node. This works fine if one uses VNC directly on the the node. It only seems to fail if the VNC session is started within a Slurm job. We can successfully start on the same node, while the job is running, so long as the VNC session is outside the job.

We have tried using strace with the workbench command, but there is so much noise, we cannot figure out what is really trying to start the Geometry Editor, how it is invoked, what it needs in order to run properly, etc.

We would like some help debugging this issue: In particular, we would like to have a way to isolate what the actual error is, as the only real indication we are getting is a box that says "Unable to start Geometry Editor". How do we get to tell us why?

Thank you, -- bennet

    Try setting the following environment variables

    ANSYS_FRAMEWORK_DEVELOPMENT=1

    WBTRACING="true"

    ANSYS_FRAMEWORK_DIAGS=Utilities.TraceToConsole

    This should show more information in the terminal. If you want to redirect it to files, you can start Workbench with something like this

    <path to wb>/runwb2 2>~/stderr.log 1>~/stdout.log
