Why plastic strain is bigger than 1 in ansys?

Hi friends, I have a question for the strain value. My maximum total strain is bigger than 1, but from definition of strain it is really odd. Do you know why total strain is bigger than 1?

    Thanks for the question. So, the first thing to do is look at the elastic and plastic components, so epel as well as eppl. This will give you an idea on whether it is elastic or plastic. There is no limit on elastic or plastic strain from a numerical perspective, so seeing a number of 2.0 or 3.0 would mean 200 and 300% strain respectively and materials like some polymers or rubbers can achieve. In your case I do not know the material properties you are using, but of course if you are using a metallic, then yes, there would be very high. In that case you will wish to check your material properties are correct. Double check units. Double check your plasticity inputs (you state plastic strains in the title). Also, since you will be seeing large strains it seems, you will want nlgeom,on. Try these and let us know if this helps.
