Flexnet Licensing is not functionning
Hi, I am the IT representative for the Concordia SAE team. Recently we have received a new Ansys license file and we have been having issues regarding Flexnet Licensing.
Before running installing the new license file, it was suggested that We get a new license server manager (2020 R2) instead of the one we had prior to the update (2018 R2). This is what I did and after installing the new license file this is what I was getting.
and this is how the ansoft.lic file looks like
I suspect that it is due to the fact that the expiration date is in 2018 (line 6). In that case, we did not receive a replacement for the file so how can I get a new one ? If not, how can I go about solving the issue ?
Thank you

@it_concordia You started this post stating that you recently received a new license file, yet you are then saying you haven't received a replacement license? This license you have posted has been expired since 2018. The new license should have been issued on Oct 07 and provided to the ASC on the account. That license must be installed on the server. If the ASC doesn't have the license, please reach out to your ANSYS Account Manager to request a copy of the latest license.
Thanks
Matt
Hello @mmadore Thank you for the reply,
This is the license file we received by email from ANSYS:
but when I click " View Flexnet licenses " The server in the message above is the one that is showing up:
Am I doing something wrong ?
Hello @mmadore Thank you for the reply,
So as suggested I installed the new license file and as you can see in the image below, it looks like the Flexnet part of the license is not running because the port in the license is already being used:
So from this point on what can I do ? My guess would be to contact the account manager in order to change the port. Is that fine ?
Thank you,
Chris
Please reboot the server, it will free the port and allow you to start the license manager with the new license.
I have rebooted the server but I am still getting the same error for Flexnet.
Can you please share the full text of the license.log starting at the reboot time?
sure, here it is:
It appears you have incorrectly modified your license files. You are trying to run ansyslmd on port 1055, but port 1055 is used for lmgrd. If you need to specify a static port for ansyslmd, you need to select another port.
lmgrd tcp-port 1055
Starting vendor daemon at port 1055
9:21:24 (lmgrd) Using vendor daemon port 1055 specified in license file
Modify the VENDOR line in the license file to change the port used for ansyslmd.
Thanks,
Matt
Hi, thank you for the response. I have changed the port on the license file as you can see in the picture below but the Flexnet part is still not running. Attached is also the license.log file.
Thank you,
Chris
Please try rebooting again to clear the port 1055. You may also try stopping the lmgrd process in the Task Manager, to clear the port.
Thanks,
Matt
I rebooted the computer as suggest and stopped the lmgrd process in the task manager but the Flexnet license is still not running (look picture below).
When I click again on start, I get this error:
It looks like the hostid in the license file is changing for reasons I ignore. on the first line after "DISK_SERIAL_NUM=" it is supposed to be e01d7ded but it keeps changing to SAESERVER which gives the error above.
Is there a way I can stop it from changing ?
Thank you,
Chris
@it_concordia I've emailed you directly.
