Respected Experts,

I am trying to find the cooling inside the motor due to the rotation of the rotor, In a way to find the vortex inside the motor. So, my aim is to find the temperature of the stator as it exhibits 200Watts of heat. and my next aim is to find how the vortex of air inside the motor flows as the rotor rotates, that would give me some rough Idea of the internal design and cooling.

I searched in YouTube for solution, but it didn't work out well for me.

Please suggest me a specific papers or tutorials to come up with a solution.

    Have you watched the following videos on E-Motor modeling between Maxwell and Fluent?

    There is also another video from our Channel Partners - CADFEM UK and Ireland.

    These videos should walk you through the set-up process. You should be able to learn how to model and use the system coupling to transfer data between Maxwell and Fluent.

    In addition to this, you can search online for any open literature on modeling thermal management of Electric Motor in Fluent. Please use the following keywords to search "thermal management electric motor cooling fluent".

    Thank you very much and sorry for the late reply.

    It was a very useful videos and your keyword reference also worked well.

    I could possibly do up to some extent.

    I hope I have got an idea of proceeding. But still, I face a problem.

    The shaft has to rotate in a Z axis. So I gave (0,0,1) in the frame motion, yet the shaft is lifting up in Y-axis (that is the problem) and the origin of rotation is (0,0,0) (i.e, I positioned at the centre) .

    So what is the problem here?

    Also If I Tick ON the ENERGY at the model and specify the source terms, I get the energy residual diverging beyond 1E+4 and the within few iterations, I get FLOATING POINT ERROR.

    Please, kindly, get me a perfect solution, in this aspect.

    Please verify that your mesh quality is good (min orthogonal quality should be greater than 0.1)

    Regarding the frame motion axis and origin, can you share a screenshot of your geometry? Also, how are you checking if the shaft is rotating in the y-direction?

    Hello Sir,

    The minimum orthogonality i am having is 0. So how to increase that sir?

    I set the rotation axis at Z , when I watch the preview mesh motion, the shaft is rotating in Y axis. In this way, i concluded that , the rotation axis is wrong. Please let me know how to rectify it.

    The minimum orthogonal quality of 0 is bad. I'd first identify the cells with these poor quality cells (in the range of 0 and 0.1). This will tell you whether you need better local control or if you need to simplify your geometry in these regions.

    Regarding the incorrect rotation, please share a screenshot of your problem set-up and a schematic representing your geometry here in your response. As an Ansys employee, I will not be able to email you to get these details. It is possible that your center of rotation (through which your rotational axis passes) is not properly specified. You might want to get the correct coordinates. You should be able to do this from your CAD tool (perhaps, Ansys SpaceClaim might help).
