Updates in ANSYS Research Licence and Installation Issues

Hello,

We have access to ANSYS Research Licence in our research group. The files shared with me show the availability of versions 2019 R3 and below. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to a higher version of ANSYS (2020 R2) on one of the machines in the lab at no additional cost. (while others stay the same)

Secondly, upon installing the 2019 R3 version, I see that some components (such as fluent, steady state thermal, etc.) are not displayed in ANSYS Workbench. Could someone please help with getting them working?

    Access to later versions depends on whether you're paying for the updates (TECS). If you are then updating one machine should just be a case of downloading the software and installing it. Note, you will need to update the licence manager too.

    Not sure why you're not seeing some components. Screen shots will help diagnose this.

    If you're connecting to the Uni licence you just need to have software installed and the licence manager pointing at the server. The licence ID is attached to the server, not the machine you're sat at. You may need VPN to access the network so be wary of link time outs.

    For a standalone licence the file is linked to your machine ID and the licence manager is on your machine along with the software. That's how my laptop is configured.

    Thanks, I resolved this with my IT department

    Mostly it is incorrect licensing. General tips (from my limited understanding), if in a research licence on campus

    make sure that the computer username is the assigned id

    Connect to university/on-campus VPN (where the server is)
