Fused deposition modelling , part simulation for residual stress

Dear all,
I am working on residual stress analysis of additively manufactured thermoplastic composite parts. I am using extrusion based additive manufacturing called screw extrusion additive manufacturing. In order to simulate residual stress i have to develop a path for heat and material input in Ansys. I have create code for that. Can please let me starting points or give a guidance to perform such a simulation.
I have intial idea that i have to use element death and birth. How can i devlope a element death and birth command for complex geometries.
Thank you in advance.

Dear @peteroznewman
Thank you for quick reply. I have a complex geometry for that i have Gcode for additive manufacturing. I want my heat source to move accoring to that X,Y and Z data and simulteniously i want to activate the elements. I realatively new to Ansys APDL commands. Can you please suggest me a start point.
Also Can i use ACT called additive wizard for FDM simulation?
Thanks in advance.
