Design parameters study

We are trying to do design study for cellular structure, i.e. Honeycomb structure, to optimize the generated structural stresses under certain applied loads. Does ANSYS has the capability to do such study? is there any documents that you may share with us?

    If you are looking to create a beam or surface like structures, you can always parameterize the thickness and use design explorer or Optislang even....

    Also, the appstore currently has 2 free apps that can generate honeycomb structures, I haven't tried these but you might be able to parameterize in there as well if you have the xml script:

    Alternatively, you can also pattern and parameterize in SpaceClaim or DesignModeler:

    So, a quick google search illustrates someone analyzing a structure like this:

     

    Alternatively, If you want to then determine the optimum geometric parameters for a desired structural behavior(Stiffnesses--Usually the end goal). Although several homogenization techniques can be used, they are be primarily calculated based on kinematics:

    - Based on kinematics: 6 different solicitations are applied to the unit cell: 3 tensile tests and 3 compressive tests, and resulting force reaction are post-processed and the effective properties of the RVE calculated.

    Homogenization is a technique most people use to analyze such structures, peter had provided a very good explanation in this discussion.

    What I meant is typically using periodic boundary conditions, you first subject your unit cell to different loading conditions while parameterizing the geometric features. You then back-calculate the stiffness of the unit cell in different directions based on the force-deflection response. My understanding of homogenization is based on what you would do for composites, where let's say you are studying the effect of an angle between the 2 fibers on the overall stiffness of the RVE.

    So this might not even be required for you here since you are dealing with just one homogenous body. Just build your structure with the dimensions you want, parametrize the features of interest using DX and look at the probes of the reaction forces vs displacements.

    I never done it before. I would be grateful if you could share/create document to guide me through the process of performing such study. Please, you can create simple geometry and perform these processes and I will do it on my structures on the same manner.
