Remote point query

tumitumi Member Posts: 20

If we do not use remote point from correct location ( like centre of gravity of structure which we didn't model ) and instead apply directly in location of application.

Will it give wrong stresses, will stresses be more or less?

Thanks

    Hello @tumi ,

The remote point connects to the scoped feature with different connection methods, but the important point is that the location does change the moment balance. You can think of it as a force applied at some distance away (like the moment arm measurement) If you do Sum of forces from statics, the location will not change the force balance, but sum of moments will change with location, so yes it will change your stresses. More or less stress would depend on the model. Hope that helps!
