Ansys Insight: Running LUMERICL daemon with LMTOOLS on Windows

The guidelines shown here is for using 'lmtools' to run Lumerical FlexNet license manager in Windows.

Requisites:

  • This process requires a license file.
  • FlexNet license manager version 11.16 and newer.

Installation:

  • Install Lumerical FlexNet license manager.
  • Edit the 'LUMERICL' license file according to your machine’s Hostname, FlexLM, and LUMERICL Vendor ports to be used. Example shown here is using the default ports.

  • Copy the license file to,
C:\Program Files\Lumerical\Lumerical-FlexLM\licenses\LUMERICL\
  • Stop the Lumerical FlexNet license manager,

Start -> All programs -> Lumerical -> Lumerical-FlexLM -> Stop license manager

  • Disable Lumerical FlexNet license manager 'lumlmadmin' in Windows services.

Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Services

Running Lumerical service on LMTOOLS:

  • Reboot or restart your computer.
  • Configure Lumerical FlexNet service on LMTOOLS. Open and run LMTOOLS. The default path for Lumerical FlexNet LMTOOLS is shown below.
C:\Program Files\Lumerical\Lumerical-FlexLM\bin\lmtools.exe
  • Go to the 'Config Services' tab and browse to the location of the files used by the Lumerical FlexNet.
  • Save your Service.
  • Navigate to the ‘Services/License file’ tab, choose the option: ‘Configure using Services’ and select your ‘FlexLM Service’
  • Go to the ‘Start/Stop/Reread tab and select the service and Click ‘Start Server’
  • Check the status of the license manager by going to the ‘Server Status’ tab and clicking ‘Perform Status Enquiry’.
  • You can also check the license status from the command prompt using 'lmutil' command on the CLI.
cd C:\Program Files\Lumerical\Lumerical-FlexLM\bin
lmutil lmstat -c 27011@localhost -a 

Stopping Lumerical FlexLM in LMTOOLS:

  • Open and launch LMTOOLS.
  • Go to the ‘Start/Stop/Reread’ tab
  • Select the FlexLM service you want to stop and click on the 'Stop Server' button.
