Bolt Clearance Can't be solve


I'm working on simulation of shear connection using workbench and the clearance of bolts is a very important factor to study.

I used static solver and the only way to solve is to change the interface treatment in the contact to adjust to touch. This will solve but neglect the clearance in solution while it physically exists in the model.

The model I calibrated with is clearly claimed using the sliding option in ABAQUS. I tried option small sliding in Ansys solution but no way to solve.

Please help as I want to generate a realistic simulation as lab test.

    I recommend you open the geometry in DM, SC or your CAD system and translate the bolt so it is tangent to the hole in the bottom part, then translate the top part so it is tangent to the opposite side of the bolt as shown in this exaggerated image below.

    The small sliding option in ANSYS is used to speed up the solution when you know there is little relative motion in the contact. I would leave it off for this model.

    I tried this but didn't work. However, I want to simulate the actual moment rotation curve as my verification model. I can try any solver instead of static but I don't know where to start.

    I guess there is any option for that in static for sure. It's Ansys if you know what I mean

    "I tried this but didn't work."  What did you try and why didn't it work?

    It's possible with a displacement control to have the frictional contacts between bolt heads and nuts to the members they are clamping slide. It is almost impossible to do that with a Force or Moment input. If a displacement control is used, the reaction force can be extracted from the solution.
