What is erosion and its application in Explicit analysis?
I ansys Explicit, erosion is deletion of elements based on either geometric strain limit or by material failure criteria.
If you select both conditions, the elements are deleted on basis of what happens first.
You can retain inertia of elements deleted if you wish to.
It helps in removing failed elements.
the other reason to use erosion is to remove distorted elements so the energy error is avoided.
It creates beautiful visualization of how elements fail and flyoff in some impact simulations.
