You must construct a surface in the XY plane for 2D fluid flow.
If you want to do an Axisymmetric model such as a straight pipe, then you must have the axis of revolution along the X axis and make a surface on the +Y side for a radial slice that if revolved around the X axis would recreate the 3D fluid domain.
