Short answer, our LS-DYNA MMALE does not support turbulence modeling for multi-mat.

ALE is a hydrocode and even though it may be used for some general fluid dynamic simulations, it works best for short duration & high gradients events, not prolong flow field events. As an experiment, we attempted to account for turbulence (for single ALE material) via this KW, MAT_ALE_MIXING_LENGTH, but realize later that our strength is in our multi-mat capability. And for multi-mat ALE (MMALE) turbulence accounting is simply not well developed.

For single mat flow, there are plenty of CFD codes out there with turbulence capability that may be used. We feel that ALE is not the best tool for this type of analysis.
