After the stress state of a material reaching the initial yield surface, the yield surface will start to grow with the increase of stress of the material. Hardening rules define how the yield surface grows in the principal coordinate system. For isotropic hardening, the origin of the yield surface does not change, and the yield surface expands isotopically (same in all directions).
