I have been able to resolve the above problem, by allowing each element to be alive in the first time step, and the an internal solution magnitude limit was exceeded no longer appears. However, it does not seem that the element birth and death technique actually change the final temperature analysis at all in terms of the values which seems very awkward.nAny clarifications or advice would be greatly appreciated.
