You should always include a boundary layer when walls are present. In the case of a pipe flow with moderate Re as the one of your problem y+=10 is more than enough (even though y+<1 is ideal).
In regards to the viscous models, based on theory and experience, the one by default (k-omega SST) is the best option for 99% of cases of practical application.
