The vertical distance between the corner of the face of the pin and the corner of the face of the hole is the misalignment tolerance. If the alignment is within that distance, then the pin goes in the hole. If the alignment is outside that distance, then the pin face crashes into the face of the part with the hole in it. The misalignment tolerance is reduced when the taper angle is reduce if the axial travel is the same. Adding pin length and axial travel can increase the misalignment tolerance.
