Thanks for reaching out. The closed and open boundaries are relevant for HEAT simulations. They essentially determine whether the simulation region will further extend if a structure doesnÔÇÖt end at simulation boundary. Shell is used for PML boundary condition, useful for optical simulations in FEEM and DGTD. These boundaries are also described in
