My approach is to create a master file, then copy it to wherever is needed. With good housekeeping it’s not been a problem, and if I do need to link a file to a specific case I just rename the UDF.c file. What you’re proposing is neater at first look but highly likely to cause some data to get muddled up later on.
I can't comment on the filenames, but when running urban windflow the UDF.c and folders typically were named for wind direction & speed, as were the case & data files: eg 0p5_sw_my-project-name.cas . In other cases feature size/angle would be used: nozzle-0p75_my-project-name
