One trick with CAD and other modelling software is to save files with 01, 02 etc in the filename as you work through the design. If you make a mistake in (for example) 09 and notice later that it's corrupt in 14 you can go back. Autosave is only good for some cases and a limited number of steps. It's a technique I use as I historically have been dealing with corrupted files and regularly need to back track to try something else.
