Absolute pressure is absolute static pressure whereas total pressure is static pressure plus dynamic head. Static pressure may be refered to as the 'gauge' pressure, whereas the absolute static pressure is gauge pressure + operating pressure (e.g. for the purpose of calculating gas density), enabling you to solve for pressure in relative terms rather than absolute terms to improve numerical accuracy where pressure differences are small in comparison to the absolute pressure.
