After searching again for a while I found this: https://forum.ansys.com/forums/topic/ansys-mapdl-2020-r1-will-not-open/ which suggested to rename the libiomp5md.dll file in the c:/windows/system32 directory. I renamed it to libiomp5md.dll.old and mechanical works now, hope this helps anyone that was in the same situation as me.
