Usually we run convergence studies on derived results, like stress. FEM's can be pretty course, relatively speaking, and still be fairly accurate in the directly solved for variable (like displacements). It depends on the specific physics, element used, mesh size/density etc. What happens if you increase the element size instead of decreasing?
