I guess you are viewing the mode profiles from the mode expansion monitor directly. Those are not the decomposed results. The decomposed results are coefficent a and b.Please check Using and understanding Mode Expansion Monitors

Better solution is to use "port" Ports (FDTD) - Simulation Object
