It's strange, and it should not be. Are you facing this issue with other models as well? Do you have the same version as your friend?
I am assuming that you have entered the same value and the same mesh setting as your friend has.
You can do one thing: save the failed mesh as an archived file, open the same file in your friend system, and then perform the meshing operation there. Let me know if you are able to perform it or not.
