There is a bit too much gap between the two bodies in the initial configuration, which makes it difficult for the contact to establish. Hence, the bodies are seen to penetrate through each other as if no contact has been defined. Following warning message hints at this:


I would recommend to try following:

1. Apply the displacement load gradually. This can be done by increasing the number of substeps by going to "Solution Progression" under solver controls.


2. Define an additional contact between top of the piston and bottom of the hooks as shown below. In the course of application, these two surfaces are expected to slide over each other:



I could get expected behavior with these changes (see attached animation). Please give it a try and do let me know if it helps.
