Were you using the 2020 R1 version? I'm unable to reproduce this issue in my system.
Clicking on the barcode displays the properties and allows me to edit them as well. (refer image below)
Have you tried right-clicking on the barcode and selecting "properties" from the drop-down menu?
If this does not solve your issue, can you please share a short video or a screenshot which explains it more clearly?
