Even I have experienced the issue. I think the drawing is aligned with the positive XY axis. 
I am not sure if it is intended behaviour, I will get in touch with the experts/developers, and will let you know.
Do you recall the bug ID filed 2 years back (or any mail thread)? (I will try to find it as well).
