From what you mentioned I have tried 2 different combinations. 

1) Self Weight in refine mode as it doesn't apply in explore mode.

2) Remote mass at 7 different locations in explore and with gravity in refine mode.

I didn't face any issue while simulating. I have shared the file through secure transfer. Please check and share the setup or screen recording of the issue you are facing?
