Hello smetzger

The Always show icons, never thumbnails is not checked should be off as it is. 

Please can you try steps below:

1. Check if Show thumbnails instead of icons is set? Refer Images 1, 2 & 3 for the same.
2. Check if the Registry has the right path set to the thumbnail provider dll ?
