SubscriberI was previously having an issue with Fluent 19.2 where when I would open it I would get the error "no cached password" but I was able to fix this by setting environmental variables. However, now when I try to open Fluent from workbench it loads for a while and then pops up "Fluent application failed to start"

SubscriberI tried running with no firewall or antivirus again with no success. How to I check if this issue is due to renaming files from past installed versions of Ansys?

Ansys EmployeeJust to clarify, so your stand-alone Fluent is working fine now ? You can launch, do some work, save and load just fine ?
As for WB-Fluent loading project, are you able to just launch a blank session of Workbench-Fluent without loading a project ?
Right click on the Fluent module in Workbench and select 'Properties' , then post the screenshot of this.
Open CMD Prompt and enter the following command
set
then post the output of this as well.

SubscriberThis is my first time working with Fluent so I am not sure if it is loading all the way on its own (not opened from WB)

Ansys EmployeeThanks for the info.
Your stand-alone Fluent is really working fine. It loads completely.
For the 'Properties' from Workbench, can you right click on the 'Solution' cell in this Fluent module and select 'Properties' , then post its screenshot again ?

Ansys EmployeeHmm, this looks good too.
When you launch Fluent from Workbench, how far does it go before throwing that error ? Do you see Fluent console with some messages in there ? What is the last message that it shows ?

Ansys EmployeeSo, it hangs during loading your project files.
Let's see if you have the same issue with this.
Open a new WB session.
Insert Fluid Flow (Fluent) system
Import this "Support_Geometry.igs" geometry file from C:Program FilesANSYS Incv192aisolSamplesFEModeler
Right click on 'Mesh' , then 'Update'
Double click on 'Setup'
Does this hang at the same stage in Fluent console window ?
If so, in CMD Prompt, try the following command (make sure all ANSYS apps are closed)
move "%appdata%ansys" "%appdata%ansys.old"
Also, when Fluent Launcher window pop-up, click 'Show More Options' -> 'Environment' -> put the following in the Environment Variables box
LAUNCHER_FLUENT_OPTIONS=-driver msw
If this doesn't help, try changing it to
LAUNCHER_FLUENT_OPTIONS=-driver opengl2
Does any of this help ?

SubscriberAfter importing the support_geometry.igs Fluent still fails to start. I just wanted to make sure I am using the right settings on the Fluent launcher. My laptop has 8 logical processors (and no GPU) so I've tried using every number 1-8 of the processors and I tried running it on series. It still fails to launch.

SubscriberI also tried the command and setting both variables in the launcher and Fluent still fails to launch after getting stuck.

SubscriberI am beginning to wonder if this is an issue with my laptop not being able to run Fluent. If it helps I have the temporary project files on an external hard drive, I have 16 GB of RAM and no compatible GPU. Is there any other information that could be helpful to see if its an issue with my laptop being able to run Fluent?

Ansys EmployeeBut Fluent stand-alone does work, so this is more of a settings in WB that somehow changes Fluent settings or something else in WB.
Let's try another test.
In WB, insert Fluent component systems, then open this Fluent session. Does this work without issue ?

SubscriberI'm not sure if this matters but I have 8 logical processors so I use 6 when prompted in the Fluent launcher and I have the temporary project files set to an external hard drive

Ansys Employeelet's eliminate any potential MPI related issues.
In your Fluent Launcher, set it to be Parallel with 0 cores
Also, i prefer temp project to be local on the machine with full access, say, C:temp , for example.

Ansys EmployeeThanks for the update. Glad the ANSYS Student version works for you.
Just curious, is this still the same machine and what version number is this ANSYS Student ?

Ansys EmployeeI see. Probably there was an issue with Fluent configurations. So, the newly installed ANSYS Student version works.
In any case, glad it works for you. Thanks for the info.
