A Problem using Shell Elements for Topology Optimization

  When loading on a shell element is normal to the surface, the maximum stress is either at the top or bottom position. It is not at the middle position. The Global von Mises Stress Response Constraint looks at the elemental mean stress from the middle position. Consequently, the Constraint does not limit the stress to the maximum stress value for the element. Is there a solution to the problem? Thanks Bobn

  Currently stress constraint can only be enforced based on elemental mean. n
