SubscriberHi everyone
I would like to do a thermal simulation with HEAT Lumerical. The thermal material of the heating element is not included in the thermal material database. I checked very carefully but it doesn't exist in the list. The only option is to import a material from another .ldev simulation file. In my case, I don't have the material to another simulation file. So, what can I do to import a new material in the thermal material database?

Ansys EmployeeHi, You can import new material : Material Database in Finite Element IDE (CHARGE, HEAT, DGTD, FEEM, MQW) – Ansys Optics
This post also help you to understand adding new material : Ansys Insight: How to add new material into the optical material library
Thanks and regards

SubscriberThank you Devika for the reply but the link "Ansys Insight: How to add new material into the optical material library" describes only how to add a material in the optical library. I am searching for a way to add a new material into the Thermal materials database, not the optical library. I know how to add material in the optical library but for the thermal database, there is not any explanation. Also, the link "Material Database in Finite Element IDE (CHARGE, HEAT, DGTD, FEEM, MQW) - Ansys Optics" does not explain how to add a new material into the thermal material database. The link shows that someone can create, modify and delete. The "create" option just imports to the simulation an already existing material from the thermal database, it doesn't create a new material.
I thought as a solution to add a new material but I am not sure if it is correct. Please see the following steps:
- I selected an existing material,
- I duplicated it and I renamed the copy duplicate material to a new name
- I modified the thermal properties so as to be similar to the material that I want
So, I will modify the density, the specific heat, the thermal conductivity and the electrical conductivity. Is my thought correct?

Ansys EmployeeHello, Thanks for explaining the problem.
For adding athermal material property using script is explaine here : Creating and modifying thermal materials from a script – Ansys Optics
More details are here: Materials in Ansys Lumerical HEAT — Lesson 1 - ANSYS Innovation Courses
You requirement is to add new material right?
If you duplicate a material in new name, you can modyfy its thermal property.
Yes you can modify the density, the specific heat, the thermal conductivity and the electrical conductivity.
Note: Any modification you make in the material database of your simulation file stays with the simulation file and won’t change the default material database.
Let me know how it goes and if further help required I will get back to you by Monday.
Thanks and regards.
