I am looking to download the 17.1 version of Ansys as it is what they use in my university and, having downloaded the 2019 R3 package it differs so much form the taught material that I am struggling to follow the course.

Unfortunately, we don't offer the download of that old version of ANSYS anymore. Please see this thread
The oldest version that we still offer the download is 2019 R1, you can try it and let us know if you have questions with the GUI.
