ANSYS Campus Solutions: Autodyn and Explicit Dynamics in Workbench; multicore simulations

      Good afternoon,

One of our subscribers is using ANSYS "Explicit Dynamics" in Workbench to run a multicore simulation. We advised her to use the "Tools" menu found under the Explicit Dynamics (Mechanical window) to enter the number of cores she though she would need. We think we can also do this through the "Explicit Dynamics" -> "Setup" option.

However, if we select "Autodyn" from the "Component Systems" sidebar in ANSYS Workbench, we can't find a way to set a multicore simulation.

Would you kindly let us know:

      1) The base number of cores that "Explicit Dynamics" uses (we think a maximum of 4);

      2) If there are any limitations other than cores available or licence features for an "Explicit Dynamics" simulation; and

      3) If it is possible to set a multicore simulation in "Component Systems" -> "Autodyn".

We have no experience with this module.

      Thank you,

      CMC Microsystems' technical support

      Good afternoon,

Would we be better off sending in these questions to our Canadian ANSYS contact? The posting above may not be suited to this portal. Please advise.

It's 16 for base number of cores for ANSYS Academic Research and Teaching

2). If there are any limitations other than cores available or licence features for an "Explicit Dynamics" simulation?

      I don't see any limitations.

3). If it is possible to set a multicore simulation in "Component Systems" -> "Autodyn"?

      Yes, refer https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v194/adyn_para/adyn_para.html

I did some tests, could not made parallel solving work in Workbench > Autodyn. Suggest to refer

https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v194/wb_adyn/adyn_batch_windows.html to start standalone AUTODYN in parallel using AUTODYNWRAPPER.exe. IBM MPI or Intel MPI need to be installed on local machine (e.g. from C:Program FilesANSYS Incv194commonfilesMPI).

      Good afternoon,

Thank you for pointing us to the "Autodyn" wrapper.

We have forwarded a link for this case to the subscriber in question, and will try your suggestions for ourselves this week, so we can understand the module better.

      Good morning,

We believe this is the solution to our questions and have marked it so. Thank you for your effort.
