SubscriberHi all,
I need help with my simulation.
I am running simulations that I know work but still have this issue. I cannot run any simulation in Mechanical.
I get the following error:
An error occurred while starting the solver module. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section in the Ansys Mechanical User Guide for more information.
I have looked in the Troubleshooting section in the Ansys Mechanical User Guide as advised in the error. The information is as below:
Possible reasons that the solver may fail are: • Insufficient memory - You may not have enough virtual memory assigned to your system. To increase the allocation of virtual memory (total paging file size), go to Settings> Control Panel> System (on your Windows Start Menu). Click the Advanced tab and then click Performance Options. Increase the size of your virtual memory. • Insufficient disk space - You may not have enough disk space to support the increase in virtual memory and the temporary files that are created in the analysis. Be sure you have enough disk space or move to an area where you have enough. • Corrupt product installation • License request rejected • The startup directory for cmd.exe has been overridden by the AUTORUN option and as a result causes the solver to be unable to locate the solver input files.
I cannot see any reason why my simulation will not run. I have enough disk space, I have enough memory, I have used the installation to run the same files before, I have tested the licence and I am lost as to why it wont run. The only information that I don't understand is
"The startup directory for cmd.exe has been overridden by the AUTORUN option and as a result causes the solver to be unable to locate the solver input files"
Does anyone know what this means, or if this may be the reason why the simulation wont solve?
Please help!
Kind regards

This error can occur when the ANSYS product or Workbench project files are located on an external device, or on a network drive using a UNC path. Ensure that the ANSYS product and Workbench project files are accessible on the local machine, or on a mapped drive.

Ansys EmployeeHi @djnckln Since you have run analyses prior with same install, but now none will solve, perhaps something has changed. The most usual suspects would be security related i.e. anti-virus, anti-malware that sort of thing. A update there could now be blocking the solve process. IT folks are not known for their cooperation when asked questions like "can you turn off the anti-virus etc for some testing" (for good reason) but you may want to ask about recent updates.
Solving is a multi-step process, even before the actual FEA solving takes place. So there are a lot of 'things' to look at for troubleshooting. Let's start with an easy on; uncheck 'distribute' box in the Solution tab and try the solve. What happens? If you are using an older version then this would be in the Solve Process Settings.
