As impoting CAD model to ANSYS flow simulation (fluent ) the solid model becomes a shell model

Hello, my question is related to meshing the assembly model I have imported to ansys.

I intend to perform a flow simulation in a pneumatic hammer where the piston will move due to an opening valve and I would like to observe the drop of pressure due to this volume increase.

I have imported three different assembly files so far (IGES, STEP, and Parasolid).

Once I check geometry I see the model is a solid one but when I open the meshing, the model becomes a shell and it gets a bit harder for me to describe the boundary conditions. is there any solution for this problem?

and regarding my specific simulation as described in the first paragraph. Would fluid flow (fluent) be the most adequate simulation I should use to perform such an analysis?

      Thanks in advance.

If you're reading into SpaceClaim and it's a solid body that should carry into meshing.  Can you check the initial translation has been successful?  Images of the bodies in the left hand panel will be helpful.

Compressible liquids are complex, so yes Fluent will handle them but you'll need to be careful.

I guess this pic shows exactly what I mean, by opening with DM its solid but with Meshing its a shell.

Deselect the Section plane, and also expand the "geometry" bit in Meshing. I think you've just misunderstood the display.
