Bent waveguide loss discontinuities

      Hi,

I have been trying to calculate the loss for bent waveguide, but the plot loss vs f has been coming up with discontinuities and I'm not sure why. The bent waveguide I'm simulating was constructed via Lumerical's scripting language. I have 2 ports and determine the mode at each port, then do a frequency analysis to determine the loss in relation to the frequency (0.2 - 1.2 THz). I have attached images of my FDTD setup and the resulting loss plot. The substrate I'm using is GaAs with refractive index 3.6 and imaginary refractive index 0.01. The aim of this simulation is to eventually determine S-parameters of the bent cpw. Thank you in advance for your help.

Are you using Port to calculate the bending loss?  Port only gives you the mode loss due to bending of the waveguide where the port is located. If you have FDE please use the more dedicated solver for mode analysis. Mode in FDTD port is for source excitation and  mode expansion.

The higher loss may mean the mode is penetrating down to silicon. Please check the mode profile and make sure the mode is confined in the waveguide and it is the proper mode you desire.
