Calculating averaged temperatures in heat exchanger

Hi everyone. I need to calculate the temperature profiles in a classical shell & tube heat exchanger (85 pipes, one pass through the shell, which has no baffles), with a co-current configuration.nIn order to get said profiles, in CFD-Post I calculated the average temperature along transversal planes spanning throughout the length of the HE, both in tube side and shell side. I'm working at low flow rates (36 g/s in tube side, so 0.42 g/s per tube, 96 g/s in shell side), each pipe diameter is 8 mm and the shell diameter is approximately 18 times larger. The pitch between pipes is triangular and approximately 13 mm.nIn the shell side I tried both the areaAve and the massFlowAveAbs functions, and they produce two quite different profiles. With areaAve it is more oscillatory, while with massFlowAveAbs is steadier.nHow can I choose the correct one? Which method would theory consider the most appropriate in this case?n

Have a look for mass and area averaged on here. If you look at the maths, and/or definition, which do you think would be most useful? n

Top of the Fluids page, you'll see a magnifying glass icon, it's the search function. n
