Hey people! Been suffering for weeks now to generate an inflation layer around a 3D aerofoil I am analysing for my dissertation project at university. It is becoming a real pain and any guidance would be amazing! I've tried to get around the problem by increasing the mesh quality around the aerofoil but an inflation layer is what's really needed

Can you attach your workbench archive file? It would be easier to show it by doing it.

I'm not 100% sure how to attach a file that isn't a jpeg. How would I do it?

See attached file. I assumed that you have a full academic version which will allow you to create unlimited cells/elements. If you are using student version, mesh need to be modified further.
Also, please do investigate desired Y+ value that you need. You could modify first layer height of inflation based on that.

Hi. Yeah you seem to have done the inflation layer brilliantly! Could you tell me how you did it please? I have the student version of ansys, so how would I modify my design so as the inflation layer works?

See attached file. I have managed to keep cells/elements below the student product maximum limits (512 k cells).

I would be cautious of using inflation layers as pictured above. Near the trailing edge, the inflation layer "stair-stepped" as it approached the trailing edge which can create bad quality elements. I suggest slicing your domain into several sections so you can avoid stair-stepped layers. Also, I would recommend ICEM CFD for meshing as you can get higher quality meshes with the correct blocking. Especially in your case with an airfoil. But with ANSYS Meshing, you have a little less control of the end mesh result.

Yes I agree with the fact that mesh near the trailing edge is not so good. Probably creating separate fluid zone near the wall by offsetting wall shape could help to avoid stair-stepped mesh.
