Changing a line body from a step file in Design Modeler

      Hello everyone,

I have a sketch from Inventor that I'm using to perform a beam analysis in ansys mechanical. The point is that I have some changes to perform in that sketch, and I would like to know if I can do it directly in Design Modeler or should I need to change in inventor and update the geometry?

I'm facing some difficulties when I try to connect two parallel lines with a new perpendicular one, once the design modeler do not identify the existent lines and nodes.

      Kind Regards.

      Do it directly in DesignModeler.

Insert a screen snapshot to show any problem you have in DM.

This is the problem I'm facing:

      Original Geometry

      Modified Geometry

The problem is that when I create a plan using three points, I can't get the references (lines, points) from the existed geometry. Other point is that I couldn't split the red line.

Peter, Can you help me with this?

      Best regards.

Attach a .wbpz file created using File > Archive to your post and I will take a look. Also say what Release of ANSYS you are using.

In DM, there is a tool to split a line. That is what I will try to use on the red lines.

Hi Peter, thank your for your answer.

Yes, I already tried to use the split line and it works. The problem is how to connect the line between node red and blue, assuring that the middle line share the node with the parallel lines.

As an example, in a CAD software, I could connect the lines and I'd be sure that this condition is respected.

I'm afraid to include lines in DM that do not share the nodes and are 'free' in the sketch.

      I'm using the version 18.2.

You connect the node at the end of the line to the node at the center of the other line in Mechanical using Mesh Connections.

      Thank you Peter!

I hope this is my last question: Since I form a new part in design modeler, containing the 25 bodies, do I need to use the mesh connection? Or Ansys mechanical understand that in this one single part everything is bonded?

Your suggestion, mesh connections, is applicable when I have many line bodies and I need to connect them, correct?

Sorry to disturb you with this very basic stuff, I'm not used to work with the software.

Ps: using the manual contact region, I can connect two or more lines that share the same node, but not a line and a vertex (contact and region field remains yellow)

Mesh connections are better than contact. If you open my archive, you will see I added a Modal analysis. This is a good tool to check that all the parts are connected.  If you delete the mesh and suppress the Mesh Connections then solve, you will see the parts that are not connected.
