What does the color coding of the household electric wires indicate?

Following a standard color coding will help in classifying the function of each wire and also helps in maintaining the safety standards.

In the United States, household color coding is as follows,

3-phase line (L1)/ single phase Line - Black

       3-phase line (L2) - Red

       3-phase line (L3) - Blue

       Neutral (N) - white

       Earth/Ground (G) - Green/Green-Yellow, Bare wire.

       3-phase line (L2) - Black

       3-phase line (L3) -Grey
