Hi,

How does ansys handle contacts between three surfaces where only one pair can have opposing normals?

Hi

I only see two shells as the bottom part looks like a solid 3D body/part with elements through the thickness.

 

Also the middle shell, one can mesh with solid shell (solsh190) which will make the contact easier to set up

This case was easly handled in Nastran. I dont find any information on multiple shell surface contact in Ansys. Obviously this is different from a layered section in the case of composites.

Under the Contacts and their settings there is one called Contact Shell Face and Target Shell Face and one can pick the correct top or bottom - also thickness effect is good to use perhaps.
