SubscriberHello all,
One of our customer encounter a huge problem, they has several licenses to manages and they have big problem with the Device Id on myaccount.ansys.com. Since the software automatically send the device id to server, it send an unrecognizable number to the server. It does not help when the user want to release one of the activation on one pc and accidentally released on the other. Perhaps there are some ways this can be rectified urgently. Maybe ANSYS can come up with some sort of identification system that works better, the customer want to be able to recognized the devices activated easily. They are asking for possible time frame or date when this can happen.
Thank you and best regards.

Regarding the solution to your problem, the device ID of the current machine can be identified by executing one command in command prompt. This command is documented in this forum article. The device ID obtained from this command can then be checked under the list of activated devices for releasing. For your reference, I am mentioning the steps to execute this command:
Please find below the steps to execute the commands:
1. Launch the Windows Command Prompt from the start menu in administrative mode.
2. In the command prompt, type in:
cd C:Program FilesANSYS IncShared FilesLicensingwinx64
(this is the default installation directory of Discovery products. If you have installed it at a different location, enter the appropriate path where ansysls_client.exe is present)
3. Once in that directory, run the following commands:
ansysls_client.exe -GetDeviceId
This command returns the subscription device ID for the current system and user. You can also view the device ID from your Discovery Account page under Manage Subscriptions section and the subscription license activated on that machine.
I will also check with the licensing team if there are any plans to better identify the current device under activations list.

I have notified the concerned team about the requirement of having a better option for identifying the device ID. It will be considered for future releases but not sure as to when. The only option as of now is to find the device ID from the command prompt.

SubscriberHello Naresh Patre
I appreciate the reply, however this customer would like a timeline for when this can happen. Perhaps, you can provide a time frame for this to happen.
Thank you and best regards.

Ansys EmployeeHello achico
It's difficult to tell about the timeline. Given that there is a command-line option to identify the current system's device ID, and other prioritized items related to portal, this request would be unlikely to receive high priority. We thank you for sharing your feedback. We will share your idea/input with the product development team.

SubscriberHello Naresh Patre
"If we can identify and remotely control the entire PC to run commands as per your suggestion, do we still need Ansys to help identify the IDs in the activation list?"
This is the question from the customer.
Thank you and best regards.
