      Hi Sam,

A body can be a surface or a solid and that is geometry. A component is a collection of bodies that can be moved or hidden as a group and multiple components make up an assembly.

Think of a Component like a holder or folder.  It can contain bodies (surfaces and solids, and points, and curves, things you can see and touch) and be contained in other Components, either in the design document (the scdoc) as an internal component -- or linked to an eternal component (another scdoc file)

Having a holder like this allows you to make a separation between the active bodies you want to model and modify, and others that are not supposed to be adjusted by modeling operations.
