hello someone can explain to me the difference between membrane stress and top/bottom stress in workbench and that it is normal that the membrane stress is higher than the top/bottom stress.n

nMembrane stress is at the middle of a shell element.nIf you have a rectangular plate with one end fixed and put an axial tension along the length of the plate (x direction), that will create membrane stress. The top, middle and bottom of the shell element all have the same normal stress in the x direction.nIf you put a force in the -y direction on the end of the plate, causing the plate to bend down, that will create positive (tensile) normal x stress at the top and negative (compressive) normal x stress at the bottom, but at the middle the normal x stress will be zero.n
