DPM for particle suspensions

      Hello 


      I am trying to study a system looks like this: (suspension of cylindrical particles in stagnant fluid, then I spherical particles are injected to study the settling through the suspension). So my question:


      Is it possible to achieve that using DPM, my plan is to:


      (1) Create one injection of cylindrical particles, and simulate the suspension by Unsteady tracking, then


      (2) Create second injection of spherical particles and study its settling using previously initialized suspension fluid (fluid + cylindrical particle)


      The two injections have different properties (type, density)


      Is DPM suitable for that or I need to go for Eulerian models ?

      Fluent does account for spherical particles. If the shape is something different you might need to use another drag law and some modifications.

      Ideal points of mass that is the basis. If volume blockage is important you might either try resolving particles and using MPM or rely on Dem software

      Ok. I will try MPM. but is it possible to simulate suspensions in MPM ?

      MpM is limited to few number of particles not thousands. Mpm is resolving spherical particles so not idea too. That is why either adjusting dpm laws or use DEM software.

      But I am still wondering if I used DPM with two injections. Does the two injection interact with each other. I mean if I inject the first type of particles (cylindrical) and initialized the flow field then inject the spherical particles, Does the model account for the viscous drag reduction because if the first injection? Or the spherical particles will simply solved for the fluid domain ??

      If two way coupling yes as the first influences the flow field so that the second injection sees that disturbed flow field.
